Cold Weather Rule Begins Oct. 15

Posted: Updated:

The cooler weather is a sure sign that winter is on the way.
And officials say now is a good time to take the steps needed to make sure your house is heated.
The Cold Weather Rule goes into effect on Monday October 15.
It protects low-income households from having their heat shut off until April 15th.
The rule applies to those with electric or natural gas heating.
Those wanting to sign up must contact their utility provider, set up a payment plan, and be sure to make the monthly payments.
The Cold Weather Rule does not apply to delivered fuels such as fuel oil, propane or wood. But Minnesotans who use these fuels are encouraged to contact the companies serving them to discuss payment options, if necessary.
