All-Girl Troops Coming to Boy Scouts of America in 2019

MANKATO, Minn -

Mankato, Minn.--On Monday, they're holding an informational meeting in Mankato about the all-girl troops that will be formed in February. It will be held at Wow Zone at 7:15 p.m.

Scouts BSA, which is for kids ages 11 to 18, is creating the girls program with the same merits required to be an Eagle Scout as the all-boy troops.

"Instead of a separate program, we're doing the exact same program because that's what parents told us they wanted." said Ray Brauer, Scout Executive for Twin Valley Council,  "We want our daughters to earn Eagle Scouts just like our sons do and now they have that opportunity starting in February."

The Boy Scouts of America are going back to their roots. They previously had a similar program to the new all-girl troops called Campfire Girls that lasted until the 1970's.

The Twin Valley Council already has volunteers lined up for the new all-girl troops and will have an idea about how many to create after Monday's meeting.
