Bethany Lutheran College Proposes New Student Activities Center

(MANKATO, Minn) - Bethany Lutheran College is looking to add a new student activities center on its campus

Two preliminary concepts for a new student activities center at Bethany Lutheran College were presented to Mankato's City Council Monday. The city's planning commission and Bethany recommend selecting one of the two proposals as a blueprint for their future activity center. The new center will either be a seasonal dome to be inflated for no more than four months out of the year, or a permanent, indoor fieldhouse.

Commission members and residents near the affected area have been meeting since July to identify potential issues brought on by the new structure. According to the city's parking analysis, extra parking would be required if the property were at peak capacity for either concept. Lights on the property are to shut after no later than 11 PM city staff says.

The planning commission and surrounding neighborhood agreed to conduct a noise test in the spring or summer of 2019 to ensure accuracy during warmer weather.

Bethany's preference is to build a fieldhouse, but that is contingent on fund raising ability.
