U.S. Department of Agriculture Issues Disaster Declaration

Posted: Updated:

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has issued a disaster declaration for seven southwestern Minnesota counties impacted by summer flooding.
The flash flooding and extensive rain took place from June 17 through July 3.
USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue has declared Murray County a primary disaster area and the counties of Cottonwood, Lyon, Nobles, Pipestone, Redwood and Rock have been named contiguous disaster counties.
The disaster designation makes farm operators in these seven counties eligible for emergency loans from the federal Farm Service Agency.
The FSA says it will consider each application based on extent of production losses on the farm and the security and repayment ability of the operator.
Eligible farmers have 8 months to apply for emergency loans.
